ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION:

Friendship House of Christian Service is a faith-based Community Development Agency located in the heart of Billings’ “South Side” neighborhood. Since 1957, we have served as a family and community resource center dedicated to improving the spiritual, social, emotional, and economic conditions of the South Side by providing services and opportunities for children, youth, teens, adults, and families.

Our primary focus is building a healthy community based on holistic family programming. We accomplish this goal through wrap-around services that include Childcare, Preschool, Youth Afterschool & Summer Enrichment, Teen Programs, Adult Life Skills & Education, and Child, Adult, and Family Counseling. Through intentional relationships and partnerships, we support individuals from newborn to 103 with best practices programming aimed at transforming lives and communities.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Teacher is responsible for the direct care and education of children in a childcare setting, including infants and toddlers. This position ensures a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment where children are encouraged to thrive physically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually. The Teacher also plays a key role in planning and implementing the curriculum, engaging families, and supporting the overall mission of Friendship House.

Teachers will oversee classroom operations with primary concern for creating a secure and loving atmosphere for infants and toddlers. This includes implementing curriculum tailored to developmental milestones, managing daily schedules and routines, and supporting each child’s unique learning journey.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

• A degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field is preferred.
• At least 2 years of experience in an early childhood setting, including direct care for infants and toddlers.
• Familiarity with child development principles, especially for ages 0–5.
• Experience with ProCare, E-Grants, E-Tapestry, or other childcare management systems is strongly desirable.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook, and database programs.
• Must be detail-oriented with strong organizational and Time management skills.
• Experience working in a faith-based environment is a plus.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Must pass a background check and meet all State Child Care licensing requirements.

ESSENTIAL SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for infants and toddlers.
• Maintain consistent daily routines, including feeding, diapering, napping, and structured play for infants and toddlers.
• Plan and implement an age-appropriate curriculum that supports developmental milestones in language, motor skills, and social-emotional learning.
• Observe and assess children’s growth and development; maintain detailed records and communicate regularly with parents or guardians.
• Create individualized care plans for infants and toddlers, taking into account their specific needs and family preferences.
• Support potty training and early independence in toddlers through consistent routines and encouragement.
• Collaborate with parents, guardians, and staff to create a cohesive support system for each child’s development.
• Follow all policies and procedures to ensure compliance with licensing and safety regulations.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization in classrooms, including sanitizing toys, changing areas, and common surfaces.
• Participate in regular staff development and training opportunities.
• Assist in the preparation, cleanup, and supervision of meals, projects, classrooms, and outdoor activities.
• Manage program aides and volunteers working in your assigned classroom.
• Report concerns about child health, safety, or welfare immediately to the appropriate supervisor.
• Maintain accurate records related to attendance, incident reports, and developmental observations.
• Be on-site and available during scheduled program hours.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Take the initiative to seek out solutions to problems, meet challenges, resolve conflicts, improve workflow, simplify systems and procedures, and implement cost reductions.
• Prepare articles for newsletters and other mailings as needed and generally support all efforts in this area.
• Be a constructive representative of Friendship House to those outside it.
• Network within the community to identify possible sources of needed donations of money, time, and/or materials.
• Be able to pass a background check.
• Follow the direction of the Executive Director and support his decisions publicly and privately.
• Maintain a teachable spirit and a good attitude.
• Be a public representative of Friendship House.
• All aspects of job duties and responsibilities will be handled promptly, efficiently, and without complaint.
• Solutions and resolutions to problems and challenges will be aggressively pursued.
• Reports, data records, etc., will be accurate and up to date.
• Opportunities for growth and learning will be consistently sought out.
• Communications will be clear and timely.
• Project and task deadlines will be respected and met.
• Support the mission, vision, and values of Friendship House.
